We like to think we are a centre of excellence - a husband and wife team who have worked hard since 1996 to build a business that can now compete with both the big national companies and the NHS. We deliver a very personal service and are equipped with the very latest technology to test our customers' hearing. We've just spent nearly £8000 on new equipment which can very accurately measure an individual's sensitivity to background noise – our clients tell us this is their biggest bugbear when it comes to hearing.
"I think the best thing about running your own business is being able to set your own agenda and your own personal targets. I really think now we are a centre of excellence. I also feel very strongly that we are changing people's lives. We are doing something for people that is quite often life changing. That is a huge motivator for me.
I've worked in the hearing services industry since 1985. I qualified as a Hearing Aid Audiologist in 1993 and I'm registered to practice by the Health and Care Professions Council. I'm also a Fellow of the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists.
Ear wax removal is a growing part of our business and we are very happy to offer the service as we are seeing a great demand for it in the Glasgow community. We are seeing at least ten new people per week in the practice and this number is growing. People arrive in varying degrees of distress caused by symptoms which can include dizziness, ringing ears and even pain. I undertook courses in wax removal techniques at Aston University amd University College London and it is proving to be a very popular service, with hundreds of procedures carried out so far.
"I've known most of our customers for years and get on with them very well. Often they are on their own so they chat to me and I get to know a lot about their lives.
I've gone from baking scones for my children to running a business and I've never looked back! We disagree of course, Greg will tell you I do not like taking instruction, but we have reached a level where we understand each other very well in the workplace. The business is a real team effort and I have to say it's a lovely place to work, there's a great atmosphere.
I look after the admin, reception and the books but Greg and I talk about every aspect of the business. Since opening the new premises we have just sharpened everything up, we've had new branding designed which is reflected in our signage, stationery and even the clinic decor. We have installed an excellent client management computer system which have all contributed to us really becoming a centre of excellence and a place people like to come to.
