Greg did a very professional job of suctioning the wax from our ears, even though
my husbands were badly blocked
Microsuction ear wax removal is our preferred procedure removing excess earwax. A fine suction tube combined with a suction machine is used to remove the wax. The procedure is safe, easy, comfortable and painless. The ear canal is viewed with the aid of a microscope so we can see exactly what we are doing at all times. This is the best earwax removal process available as it is completely safe if undertaken by a trained professional.
The process is pretty simple, we will first take a look in your ears to confirm that there is in fact earwax present. We will then explain what we are about to do in detail in order that you understand what is going on. Next, we will ask you a few questions pertaining to your ear health, perforations of the eardrum and any experience you have had with the procedure. We will then remove the earwax using the Microsuction tube. When we are finished removing the earwax we will again check the ear canal to make sure it is clear and healthy.
The Jobson Horn probe is anl instrument made of carbon fibre with a small circular loop on the end. Following careful examination of the ear canal the looped end of the Jobson Horn is carefully inserted into the ear to clear the ear canal of soft wax. This procedure is only used for soft wax sitting near to the entrance of the ear canal.
In the few cases where micro suction might not be the best procedure, we use the Pro-pulse irrigator which is a gentle ear irrigation system which uses water to dislodge and flush out any debris or wax. Water is directed towards the sides of the ear canal rather than the ear drum in order to make the procedure as safe and as comfortable as possible. A Jobson Horn wrapped in absorbent material may be used after this procedure to gently dry the ear canal.
Our Hearing Aid Audiologist has undertaken specialised training, at Aston University , Royal Blackburn Hospital Ear Nose and Throat Department, and University College London. He has achieved certificates of competency in ear wax removal by these various methods.
These are the same methods as are employed in GP practices and ENT departments for wax removal throughout Scotland. Best-practice guidelines are followed and the utmost care is used at all times to ensure your comfort and safety. Procedures are only carried out subject to your written consent, and all steps are explained along the way.
