Well, we knew it was coming and were excited, but it is even better than we thought. According to Hearing Aid Know, Unitron has introduced a new rechargeable hearing aid option with the new Tempus platform. There was some speculation about what technology they would choose to power the devices considering Phonak (their sister company) had gone for Lithium-ion. However Unitron obviously decided to do it their own way. Not only is it Silver-Zinc, not only is it not an integrated option, but it is also backward compatible!.
It means that if you already own a set of Moxi Fits, you can now buy the kit to make them rechargeable! Unitron went with a silver-zinc system that they have designed in partnership with ZPower (American hearing aid battery company).
Unitron say that this is the smallest rechargeable hearing aid available on the market today. The silver-zinc technology gives them somel advantages, it is very stable and very safe and it packs a lot more power in a smaller package than Lithium-ion. Unitron have used this to their advantage by making a smaller hearing aid rechargeable. This system also allows users who forget to charge their hearing aids to use a disposable battery in an emergency. Unitron is also making the rechargeable option available in every technology level.
The rechargeable hearing aids are being introduced as part of a new platform that Unitron is calling Tempus. Initially at launch, the only device types available will be the Moxi (RIC) Range and Stride BTE Range, the custom devices will follow but we have no word of when as yet.
Unitron say that the have again focused on conversation. They say that two thirds of most people's day is spent connecting with people through conversation. They say that they want to make that conversation effortless. So what are they saying about the platform?
Tempus is 50% more accurate than ever before. Delivering an outstanding experience for all conversations.
Unitron's fastest hearing platform yet, delivering seamless changes at the speed of sound so you simply hear better.
Using an infinite mix of seven sound situations, the Tempus delivers what you need to hear better no matter the situation.
The Tempus platform will come in a Pro, 800, 700, 600 and 500 level of technology. We believe the rechargeable option will be available in all levels of technology.
We agree that this type of innovation is pretty typical of Unitron. They consistently say that they have a customer or Patient focused approach that their technology follows. It seems that their actions speak louder than words, I think they are the first ever hearing aid brand to make a breakthrough technology like this, backward compatible. The range is not due to be launched in the UK until the end of March. I will keep you updated though.
